Het Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie (NIMH) zoekt een stagiair die Indonesische militaire bronnen, beschikbaar bij de Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden, gaat inventariseren en bestuderen. Het gaat om korpsgeschiedenissen van Indonesische legereenheden die actief waren tijdens de Indonesische onafhankelijkheidsoorlog (1945-1949) met een focus op de strijd op Sulawesi, en om andere gerelateerde bronnen zoals Indonesische veteranendagboeken, regionale (militaire) geschiedenissen en historische publicaties over de oorlog op Sulawesi. Het doel van de stage is het maken van een inventarisatie van de bronnen en literatuur voor verder onderzoek door het NIMH, en het zelf uitvoeren van een onderzoek naar (een deel van) deze bronnen.
Vereisten
- De stagiair moet de Indonesische taal zeer goed tot vloeiend (CEFR C1/C2) beheersen en daarnaast een inventarisatie in het Nederlands of Engels kunnen opstellen.
- Omdat het een aanstelling tot stagiair bij het ministerie van Defensie betreft, moet je de Nederlandse nationaliteit hebben (dubbele nationaliteit geen bezwaar).
- De stagiair moet t.z.t. een Verklaring omtrent gedrag (VOG) kunnen overleggen.
- Je bent masterstudent of derdejaars bachelor student.
Praktische informatie
- De stage vindt plaats bij het Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie (NIMH) in Den Haag. Voor deze stage zal je ook onderzoek doen in de Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden.
- De stage duurt vier maanden voltijds of vijf maanden vier dagen per week.
- Stagiairs krijgen een stagevergoeding van circaa 34 euro (bruto) per dag. Daarnaast hebben stagiairs recht op twee vakantiedagen per voltijds stagemaand, die zij in overleg met de stagebegeleider kunnen opnemen. Tevens is een reiskostenvergoeding voorzien, als de student geen recht meer heeft op een ov-jaarkaart.

Internship at the NIMH: Inventory and research of Indonesian military sources
The Netherlands Institute for Military History (NIMH) is looking for an intern who will study and make an inventory of Indonesian source material, available in the collection of the Leiden University Libraries. The sources include publications of histories of Indonesian military units which were active during the Indonesian war of independence (1945-1949), specifically during the war on Sulawesi. Other sources include diaries of Indonesian veterans, Indonesian publications of regional (military) histories and other historical publications on the war. The aim of the internship is to make an inventory of Indonesian source material for further research by the NIMH, and to conduct your own research on (a select part of) the identified source material.
Requirements
- You must be very good or fluent in Bahasa Indonesia (CEFR C1/C2). In addition, the intern must be able to write an inventory of the sources in Dutch or English.
- You must have (at least) the Dutch nationality (no objection to dual nationality). This is due to the fact that the internship will take place at the Ministery of Defense, of which the NIMH is part.
- You must be able to provide a certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag, VOG).
- You are a MA student or a third-year BA student.
Practical information
- The internship will take place at the NIMH in The Hague. You will also conduct research in Leiden at the University Library.
- The internship will last four months (full-time) or five months (four days a week).
- Interns will receive an internship allowance of 34 euros (gross) per day. Additionally, interns are entitled to two vacation days per month (full-time), which they can plan in agreement with their internship supervisor. Furthermore, interns can receive travel reimbursement if they do not receive government allowance for public transport (studenten-ov).
- Exact starting date will be determined in agreement with the successful candidate and the internship supervisor, starting on or after September 1st, 2026.
